August 2021 Releases You Should Be Excited For

Hey everyone!

I hope you all are safe and settling into this new normal as much as we can.

Anyway, there are some amazing books coming out in August that I am looking forward to, and I'm so excited to share them with you all!

All the books are in order of release date and mainly comprise of YA, fantasy, and rom-coms. and queer lit. I also have short synopsis for each one, in my own words, but you can always click on the book title text to go to the Goodreads page for the book.

Release Date- 3rd August 2021

Publisher- Bloomsbury

Elite prep schools just seem like the perfect place for murder mysteries to unfold to me....in fiction of course. If you're a fan of One Of Us is Lying, Ace of Spades or Truly Devious, from what I could gather from the synopsis and fellow readers, this sounds right up your alley.

This follows the story of a girl who is convicted, along with her other friends, of the disappearance and murder of a former friend, by an anonymous incriminator called The Proctor. Now secrets are being exposed and her scholarship is in danger, and yet there are still so few answers. All her friends seem to be keeping secrets, and it's up to her to save herself.

Release Date- 3rd August 2021

Publisher- Delacourte Press

Ok, this one is actually an exception because I have already read it, and have the review prepared. It will be up on August 8th, as per the Book Tour Schedule I'm participating in. Nevertheless, I still want everyone to be excited about it.

So this is the story of a girl named Natalie, who is a Latino teen pop sensation, but after a meltdown after her very public break-up, her PR team takes the reigns and sets her up with the very British film star to give the paparazzi something better to talk about.

But this fake-dating charade might very easily turn into real heartbreak if Nat doesn't keep her heart close.

Fake-dating+ Latino pop star and cute British guy? Count me in anytime.

With some epic dark-academia vibes, this story is set in the Dalloway school up in the hills, with a sinister history of witches and the occult, and at the center of it The Dalloway Five- 5 girls who mysteriously die, one after the other.

Felicity is a student at this school, trying to get through her last year peacefully after suffering the death of her girlfriend last year, but when a new girl named Elle comes barging in with an interest in Dalloway's witchy history and approaches Felicity for help in researching the death of the Dalloway Five, history is soon to repeat itself and darkness lies waiting.

That sounds so amazing, and I just know I'm gonna love it!

Bookstore owner Aubrey Barnes likes his quiet, orderly London life, thank you very much. His shop may be struggling, his only employee is a menace, and his plumbing is one creaky pipe away from disaster, but he can handle it. Maybe. He cannot, however, handle the film company that’s thrown his Soho street into chaos.

And he definitely can’t handle the charismatic American actor Blake Sinclair.

This is why he’s extremely reluctant to lease out his shop as a set for Blake's film, but it’s his one opportunity to save his business. Now he can’t get away from the distractingly hot actor.

Then Aubrey finds himself alone with Blake in a trailer, and what happens next turns London’s heatwave into an inferno that leaves him breathless.

Aubrey is not cut out for the high-profile life of dating a celebrity, especially an American actor who’s not even out yet. Good thing their tryst is absolutely not going anywhere.

Of course, when you expect nothing, that’s exactly when it starts to mean everything.

Magic always leaves its mark.

All her life, Matilda has been told one thing about her magic: You use it only when necessary. But Matilda isn't interested in being a good witch. She wants revenge and popularity, and to live her life free of consequences, free of the scars that dark magic leaves on her face as a reminder of her misdeeds.

When a spell goes awry and the new boy at school catches her in the act, Matilda thinks her secret might be out. But far from being afraid, Oliver already knows about her magic - and he wants to learn more. As Oliver and Matilda grow closer, bizarre things begin to happen: Animals show up with their throats slashed and odd markings carved into their bodies, a young girl dies mysteriously, and everyone blames Matilda. But she isn't responsible -- at least, not that she can remember. As her magic begins to spin out of control, Matilda must decide for herself what makes a good witch, and discover the truth...before anyone else turns up dead.

La Cachette, Louisiana, is the worst place to be if you have something to hide.

This tiny town, where seventeen-year-old Grey spends her summers, is the self-proclaimed Psychic Capital of the World--and the place where Elora Pellerin, Grey's best friend, disappeared six months earlier.

Grey can't believe that Elora vanished into thin air any more than she can believe that nobody in a town full of psychics knows what happened. But as she digs into the night that Elora went missing, she begins to realize that everybody in town is hiding something - her grandmother Honey; her childhood crush Hart; and even her late mother, whose secrets continue to call to Grey from beyond the grave.

When a mysterious stranger emerges from the bayou - a stormy-eyed boy with links to Elora and the town's bloody history - Grey realizes that La Cachette's past is far more present and dangerous than she'd ever understood. Suddenly, she doesn't know who she can trust. In a town where secrets lurk just below the surface, and where a murderer is on the loose, nobody can be presumed innocent--and La Cachette's dark and shallow lies may just rip the town apart.

Is it ever too late to leave the friend zone?

Hi, my name is Bree Camden, and I’m hopelessly in love with my best friend and star quarterback Nathan Donelson (so is half of America, judging by the tabloids and how much the guy dates). The first step is admitting, right? Except, I can never admit it to him because he clearly doesn’t see me that way, and the last thing I want is for things to get weird between us.

Nothing but good old-fashioned, no-touching-the-sexiest-man-alive, platonic friendship for us! Everything is exactly how I like it! Yes. Good. (I’m not crying, I’m just peeling an onion.)

Our friendship is going swimmingly until I accidentally spill my beans to a reporter over too much tequila, and now the world seems to think me and Nathan belong together. Oh, and did I mention we have to date publicly for three weeks until after the Super Bowl because we signed a contract with...oops, forgot I can’t tell anyone about that!

Bottom line is, now my best friend is smudging all the lines and acting very un-platonic, and I’m just trying to keep my body from bursting into flames every time he touches me.

How am I going to make it through three weeks of fake dating Nathan without anything changing between us? Especially when it almost sorta-kinda seems like he’s fighting for a completely different outcome?

Send help.

XO Bree

Buckle up for a slow burn, sports romance with combustible chemistry from the first chapter, laugh-out-loud humor, and easy-to-love characters. The Cheat Sheet has all the sizzle, but no on-page explicit content (PG-13 equivalent for mild language, implied sexual situations, and alcohol use).
