Book Review- Invisible Life of Addie La Rue by Victoria Schwab

Updated: Nov 29, 2020

Hello fellow survivors of the Coronavirus!

Why don't you take a minute to congratulate yourselves on making it alive this far in the pandemic!! 🎉🎊

Moving on, I'm so excited to bring to you today the review for one of my most anticipated releases of 2020, a book I had been waiting for such a long time because I knew that I was going to love it- The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue!

Note: This review is spoiler-free.

Goodreads description: A Life no one will remeber. A story you won't forget.

France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live forever and is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.

Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world.

But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore and he remembers her name.

Victoria Schwab is one of my top auto-buy authors so there was never a question about me ever reading this or not. Although Schwab's books are loved by kids and adults alike, this one is definitely for her more older audiences as it a very romance-heavy fantasy novel.

This book has been written in a beautiful and lyrical prose style with a breathtaking story and unique characters. She alternates chapters between 2014 New York City and various points in Addie's history, as she faces the consequences of the bargain. Addie is a diverse, multifaceted character.

There is so much angst and anxiety in the story and as it goes along it explores many important themes like depression, mental illnesses, life and death...loneliness. AND it also has great representation

Something I really noticed was that even though it talked about the constraints of being a woman in 1700s France, it really doesn't give the due attention to all of the other massive changes that were happening in the world during that time.

Another thing that irked me a little was that sometimes the scenes got a little repetitive, i.e. sometimes it would just be Addie going on a date with Henry, then meeting Luc in some part of her life and then going back to dating Henry again.

Nevertheless, these little things do not really take away from your reading experience so, I highly recommend reading this book.

Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

If you have already read this book, don't forget to share your thoughts with me in the comments down below. I'd also love any other reading recommendations you might have for me...any book that you absolutely loved?

Until next time,

Bye!
