Hey guys!
This Saturday I had the amazing opportunity to attend Teen Vogue's first ever Virtual Summit 2020, and needless to say it was an incredible experience!
When I look on the bright side and see what this pandemic has given me, this is one of the first things that come to my mind because under different circumstances, this would not have been possible as I am a resident of India.
It was a gathering of like-minded people and a spectacular collection of social media influencers and content creators from all over the world, such as Megha Rethin, Flossybaby and many more in an enlightening panel discussion and The Selena Gomez for a keynote conversation.
Megha Rethin, the Bangladeshi-American TikTok sensation was present, along with Tyla-Lauren Gilmore and Flossybaby for a candid discussion. They talked about a variety of topics such as balancing school life with social media, how they felt that having a public platform is a responsibility to spread a positive impact on people because this is when your words carry a weightage among the people.
We also had with us Tracee Ellis Ross, acclaimed actor from Black-ish, who inspired us with her experiences of managing her curly, black hair and learning to accept that in an industry where "bouncy and behaving" hair were all the rage, you need to accept and love yourself. Find products that support your hair type rather than try and force them to look like someonelse's. She mentions that quite a lot of times she was called out on not straightening her hair now that she had started appearing on TV. Incidents like these were her inspiration to start her own line of hair-care products, which resonated perfectly with the Summit's theme of "creating something from the ground up."
Then there was Nabeela Noor, who talked about redefining beauty to be more inclusive with her new fashion line. She was truly the epitome of cool, talking about celebrating black beauty and embracing our skin tones.
There was a fun Photo Booth to go crazy on and exclusive content to binge on.
And then there was none other than Lana Condor with a beautiful performance of her song "No Way"...
I'd also like to mention Daniel Ezra and Nkechi Okoro Carroll, with their insightful words about fighting against race gap and white privilege. There were also career meet-ups for those who had pre-booked them.
And last but not the least, the keynote speaker Selena Gomez!! I'd be lying if I said this wasn't what I was most excited about. Needless to say I was over the moon to see her live 💕
She spoke about the new beauty line she has launched, Rare, and even a cooking show on HBO called 'Selena and Chef'. She added that she's inspired when she sees women supporting women, but hopes to see more men involved in uplifting women too. "I would love to see men championing women more." She tells her listeners to focus on good quality, following their dreams and striving for authenticity.
It is impossible to describe such a wholesome experience in such few words, especially one that was as memorable as this one to me. I'd like to say that I wholly enjoyed myself, and it was an invaluable learning experience, where we saw so may people that we look upto and admire coming together...
Thank you so much for Teen Vogue for organizing this amazing event. I hope I get a chance to be a part of it once more.
Here's you to a happier 2021!! 🎊
Until next time,
Bye!
