Why do I keep reading books from an unfinished series??
Hey guys,
My winter vacations are over and its back to school time!! And for some reason, I am really happy abouy it. And of course...I know I am a week early but.......HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
To kick off my 2020 reading year off to a good start, I picked up a book with the perfect vibe for this cold, foggy and mysterious month of January.
Trulu Devious by Maureen Jhonson is the first book in a trilogy. I haven't read The Vanishing Stair (2nd book), and The Hand on the Wall (3rd book) will be coming out this year, and I Literally can't wait!!
If you don't know what this book is about, it follows the story of this girl named Stevie Bell who has been accepted into the Ellingham Academy, an exclusive free school for people who are passionate about a subject or career field. So Stevie is a true-crime afficionado, and she has always been really interested in the Ellingham murder case in which a student named Dottie Epstein mysteriously disappears, and the family of Mr.Ellingham, the founder of thr school is kidnapped and murdered.
So essentially the story has 2 timelines: The first timeline is in the year 1936,when the actual events of this kidnapping took place and the kidnapper just leaves with a note signed "Truly Devious". The second timeline follows Stevie as she comes to Ellingham and Truly Devious makes a chilling return. Another student dies, one more disappears. It seems as if history is repearing itself.
I absolutely loved this book!! If you are a fan of Agatha Christie or Sherlock Holmes, this book is just for you! Personally, I really love the mystery and contemporary thriller genre, so it was a treat for me! Other than that, there is the mystery, the fun riddles, the plot twists, and the WRITING!!
Oh my gosh! The writing!! Its incredible! (Yep, that's a real thing. When you become a writer yourself, you will realize that good writing isn't something you are born with) It lets you thoroughly imagine the place and immerse yourself in the book.
Also, the thing with mystery and detective novels is that almost evertime, I can guess what the plot is even before our protagonist does. BUT in this book, I just could not guess what would happen! It was not at all predictable, and this way, we go side by side with character as the mystery unfolds.
And going back to the very first thing I said today, I am tired of reading unfinished series. I mean, this is the second series that I have started whose third part or fourth part hasn't come out yet. And the wait is excrutiating!!!
Tell me what you think in the comments down below, if waiting for the next part is as difficult for you as it is for me. Usually it takes another really good book to get over the last book's hangover.
If you have read this book, tell me what you think. I'd love to hear from you guys. Like and Subscribe to my blog and keep flipping those pages if you would like to stay tuned to all things bookish.
So until next time,
Yours Literary,
Fantasy Maniac #FM
P.S.: Also a huge thank you to Clockwork Reader for recommending this book to me. You are amazing and we love you!!

Honestly it is really difficult for me to read books whose last part or any other part hasn’t come out yet and you want more and more of the book 😜
