MY REVIEW
Alright Everyone, this book has officially done the impossible. This book, and one other lovely read, literally pulled me out a Marianna Trench long reading slump, and I'm up and on a reading roll!
But moving on from that small life update, let's talk abou this book.
The first thing I'd like to touch on are the characters. Because I am a very character-driven reader, they're always the thing I take notice of first.
Our main protagonist, Fang is a great example of a strong female character. She's confident, feisty, brave and very ambitious. I quite liked following her perspective throughout the story.
She has a splendid charcter arc that rounds that comes full circle in the last chapter and I loved seeing the character growth.
The other characters as well, Kyuho, Sanha and others were well-developed. At first I was afraid that it was going to turn into a love triangle (NOT a huge fan of that trope...), but fortunately for me, it never steered too far into that direction.
I actually thought the romance was quite enjoyable. It wasn't super intense or over dramatic- just the right amount of angst and fun and entertaining.
I wasn't super interested in the sub plots, and they're not even a considerable part of the plot, but I just didn't care about it that much.
It also has a nice touch is dragons/animal companion theme that was adorable!
Not much to say about the world building, I guess. The setting was very unique. You could see how the author had taken inspiration from the culture of Thailand, and then added her own special touch to it. Just the classic works of witches and clans. The inter-clan relations/politics was a nice touch tho.
If you're looking for a books that you can just fly through, something that's light and fun a and fast-paced, this book is gonna be right up your ally.
